Tour of Malaysia : A Land of Petronos Towers

Malaysia, with its rich beautiful culture and heritage is one of the most visited countries in South East Asia. Moreover, it has stunning landscapes and vibrant life, is very modern and welcoming city, it covers beautiful small islands and tropical beaches. Additionaly, the city is known for its local cuisine and mouthwatering food catering to both east and west worlds.

Kuala Lumpur International airport is one of the largest and busiest airports which connects both Europe and Oceania countries as hub. It is well conncted by road transport from Singapore. As soon as I landed in KLIA aiport in August few years ago, I was marvelled at its beautiful architecture and designs; the airport itself is surrounded by man-made tropical rainforest which is very welcoming.

Kuala Lumpur with its urban pulse has plenty of accomodations from medium budget to luxury star hotels to choose from. After check-in into hotel, I just relaxed the day and caught up with my dream sleep so I can be invigorated for next 5-6 days:)

Day 1: Icoinic Petronas Towers and Caves.

After sumptuous breakfast in the hotel, we decided to first embark on sightseeing to the marvellingTwin Towers.

Ah, the Petronas Twin Towers – an architectural marvel that graces Kuala Lumpur’s skyline!  Let me share some of the insights of this iconic landmark. It has two decks Observation Deck and Skybridge

  1. Observation Deck (86th Floor): Standing above the clouds, you’d have caught a close-up view of the pyramidal structure of the towers. This state-of-art exhibits and digital displays which provides the building history and its fascinating journey. You also can see the interactive Augmented Reality screens
  2. Skybridge (41st Floor): This is one of highest two-storey bridges in the world.  You can get to walk across the double-decked Skybridge. This also acts and It’s not just a emergency exit route.

Remember, the Petronas Twin Towers are more than just steel and glass; they’re a testament to human ingenuity!

2. Batu Caves: A Spiritual Climb

A short drive away are the Batu Caves with their limestone cliffs and vibrant Hindu temples. As an enthusiast for climbing/trekking I climbed the steep 250+ steps to explore the caves and admire the massive golden statue, which is I think 140 feet, something.

Batu Caves is a mesmerizing limestone hill with a series of caves and Hindu temples. Once you are on the top you can explore.

1. Lord Murugan Statue: The gigantic golden statue of Lord Murugan which guards the entrance. It’s an impressive and marvellous sight against the limestone cliffs.

2. Cave Exploration: Inside the main cave, you can see the intricate shrines, stalactites, and natural openings that allow sunlight to filter through.

3. Jalan Alor Night Market

In the evening head to Jalan Alor as sunsets, the market is a bustling street lined with food stalls and eateries. We sampled local delicacies like satay, char kway teow, and durian (very hot if you dare!).

Day 2: Melaka – A Charming city

Also known as Malacca in Malaysia has UNESCO World Heritage Site status for its captivating architectural beauty and culture

1. Melaka’s Architectural Spledors:

  • Peranakan Shophouses:  After a hectic previous day we just wandered through the narrow lanes lined with colourful Baba-Nyonya houses which really depicts the  unique Peranakan culture.
  • The red brick Plaza exhibits the Dutch and colonial influence and has a story at each corner

2. Must See landmarks:

  • St. Paul’s Hill and A Famosa:  The famous Portuguese fortress, A Famosa is up on the hill and the panoramic views are worth it if you can make an effort to climb.
  • There is Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum if you are interested in museums and Antique shops and Local Hawkers for antique collectors.

Day 3: Langkawi : A Tropical paradise

After breakfast we flew to Langkawi which is 1 hour flight from Malaysia.  Langkawi is a tropical beach with stunning landscapes and vibrant culture. After checking into the beach resort near Pantai Cenang which I recommend, it is one of the top 10 places to visit in Langkawi.

It is likely there will be a beach close to where you are staying, and today is a good time to check out and recharge after your hectic time in Kaula Lumper, get your bearings and decide what to do in Langkawi. We went onto beach and spent time hanging out in shore and later had tasty local lunch from local Fresh ‘Catch’ Sea food. If you interested can do lot water adventures like diving, para gliding snorkelling etc.

Day 4: Pantai Cenang and Waterfalls:

Pantai Cenang:  We started early by watching the sunrise at Pantai Cenang beach, it was surreal, the soft golden hues reflecting on the water create a magical atmosphere.

  • We later went to Explore Langkawi’s lush greenery by chasing waterfalls. Durian Perangin Waterfall is a multi-tiered waterfall, with each cascade forming a freshwater pool at its base.
  • In the evening, like any beach city we headed to visit a local night market (pasar malam) to sample street food and soak in the music and vibrant atmosphere.

Day 5: Langkawi SkyBridge: Head up high!

Today we took the Langkawi Cable Car to the top of Gunung Mat Cincang and took a walk on the SkyBridge – a suspended bridge. We spent sometime hanging out to enjoy the magnificent and breathtaking views.

Once we were back to Langkawi we wanted to go Island Hopping. We stopped to see different views and beauty by taking tour on a shared speed boats to neighbouring islands– Pulau Dayang Bunting, Pulau Singa Besar, and Pulau Beras Basah. With the Crystal-clear waters and hidden coves Langkawi is a hidden gem in southeast Asia.
